We're all for sunny days and backyard zoomies, but when temperatures climb, it is our job to keep our pups safe, cool, and comfortable. Whether your Doodle is lounging in the shade or tagging along for a summer adventure, here are a few must-know tips to help them beat the summer heat:
Hydration is Everything!
Always make sure your dog has access to clean, fresh water, especially during walks, car rides, and outside time. Dehydration can happen quickly in the heat!
Skip The Midday Heat
Plan outdoor activities for either early mornings or evenings when it's cooler. Hot pavement can burn your pup's paw pads. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their feet.
Never Leave Dogs In Hot Cars
Even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside a car can become deadly in just minutes. Always bring your dog inside with you or leave them safely at home.
Watch For Signs Of Overheating
Excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, and unsteadiness are warning signs of heatstroke. Move your dog to a cool area, offer water, and contact your vet immediately if you're concerned.
Provide Shade And Rest
If your dog is spending time outside, make sure they have access to shade and a cool place to lie down. Kiddie pools, iced water, and cooling mats can be a great help!
Protect Against Pets
Fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes love this season too. Stay on top of preventatives so your pup can stay itch-free and protected.
At DALD, we believe summer should be filled with belly flops, nap spots, and tailwags- not emergency vet visits and panics. A little planning goes a long way to keep your best friend safe all summer long.
Stay cool, pup people!
