Most families think bringing home a puppy is just about picking one and taking them home. But what happens after is what really matters, and it's part that no one fully prepares you for (unless you're getting a dog from Dream A Little Doodle).

The first 24 hours? It's an adjustment. Your puppy is in a brand new environment, away from everything they've ever known. There might be some crying, a few accidents, and a lot of figuring each other out. This is normal. What matters most here is creating structure from the start—routine over emotion.

That first week sets the tone. Sleep, potty breaks, crate time—it might feel repetitive, but consistency is what helps your puppy feel safe. This is where trust is built, not by giving them freedom, but by guiding them.

By weeks 2–4, you’ll start to see more personality come out. This is also when testing begins like biting, pushing boundaries, and seeing what they can get away with. This is where a lot of families feel overwhelmed, but it’s also where structure matters the most.

At Dream A Little Doodle, we focus on what happens before your puppy ever comes home. From Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) to intentional exposure and confidence building, we’re raising puppies that are prepared for real life—not just cute for photos. We also bring families along the journey so you’re not guessing, you’re learning alongside us.

The biggest mistake I see? Giving too much freedom too soon. Puppies don’t need a big house—they need guidance. They need to learn how to settle, how to be calm, and how to exist in their home with structure.

When you bring home a DALD puppy, you’re not doing it alone. From the way we match our puppies based on temperament, to the support we offer after they go home, you’re set up with intention from day one.

Because this isn’t just about getting a puppy. It’s about raising a dog that fits your life.
